Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19.21 (NIV)
We human beings are used to live with many plans. We used to say we will do this and that, today, tomorrow or next week, next month and so on and so forth. Basically there is nothing wrong with planning. As the English proverb says ‘if you do not plan then you are planning to fail’. I interpret it like this, we should always have plans in our lives and living unplanned life is a highway to failure. Even the word of God supports us to have a planned life by proposing as follows ‘give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways’ Proverbs 4.26 (NIV). However, this careful thought to the paths for our feet which is same as having a planned life leads to a steadfast ways of life does not overthrow the above verse which says, it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. But if someone has given a careful thought to his ways, then that must lead him to have a way, plan and purpose which is the same as the purpose of the LORD.
Otherwise, if man’s plans divert from the purpose of God, then man must assuredly know that it is the purpose of God and not his (man’s) purpose which will prevail. This gives way to the idea that our plans and purpose should be in line with that of the LORD. And another point, we can learn from the above verse is that, the very reason that I am alive now is because the LORD’s purpose in my life has not yet been fulfilled. The Lord is keeping me alive in order to fulfill the purpose he has created me to. For example, Prophet Daniel outlived the den of lions. Why? Because there was a purpose which the Lord has for him and before that purpose is fulfilled any temptation cannot take the life of Daniel. Daniel will never die until he receives all the awesome revelations and knowledge of God which pertains to hundreds of generations.
